Things To Do in Mississauga – Central Library

I love libraries.

I have always loved reading and I promised myself that I’ll share my love of books to my son.

And so when we moved to Canada, one of the first things I researched on was where the nearest library is so my son and I can spend time there.

What I nerd, right? Well, yeah. 😊

Getting there:

  • The library is right around Square One – One of the largest malls in Mississauga. It’s easy to get there.

7 Things I Love about the Mississauga Central Library

1. Kids Section

Play area – I love that it has a section where the kids can play with other kids. There’s a play kitchen which Gab really loves. He B lines
every time to this area as soon as we are in the Kid’s section.

We spend a couple of minutes in the "I Spy" box every time we go to the library. Gab loves going through it even if we have gone through it already.

They have computer games for children. Gab loves the games and spends about 30 minutes going through all of them.

2. Bag of books for kids

This is so awesome you guys! And my absolute fave.

Inside these bags are books appropriate for your child’s age. There are 3 different levels – Babies, Toddlers and Preschool.

Each bag has about 5 books in them. What I do is that I get additional 5 more because I find that Gab breezes through them quickly.

I read 2 books every night. These same books I read again the next day (right before nap time). At night time, I read 2 new set of books.

3. Access to Lynda.com

I love learning something new and the library card gives me access to Lynda.com. An online learning portal from Linkedin.

To access, download Lynda.com and log in using your library card number.

That simple, guys!

In Lynda.com, you have access to hundreds of courses and it’s all FREE! Yes!!!

I think this is the best yet for having  a library card.

4. Activities for Kids

During the March break, I got the chance to sign up for shows with Gab. The fee is $3 each for an hour of fun with the kids.

There was a magic show and song and dance entertainment for the kids. The library released the schedule at least a month before the actual event.

I just made sure to take note of the schedules and reserve tickets ahead of time so I secure my spot and Gab’s.

It was so worth it when Gab told me how he loved all the shows and wants to do it over again.

5. Selection of books

The book selection is beyond my expectations. I like reading business, motivation, inspiration and novels.

Any title I was eyeing on in Amazon, I make sure to check it out first in the library before actually buying the book and the library always has them. What a win!

I always check out the best seller’s section first before browsing online and I have to say, it’s always up to date.

6. Open Space

I like that the whole library feels open. I’ve been in libraries before and I felt claustrophobic with the lay out. The lay out is open and spacious.

This is especially important to me since I sometimes bring a stroller and have a 3 year old in tow when I visit the library.

7. Friendly staff

The whole library is so easy to navigate to that you rarely will need assistance from the staff. But in the situations that I did ask for help, they were helpful and always ready to answer questions.

From the time that I got the card, they were thorough in explaining how the card works and key information that I’d like to know. I appreciated this knowing that it was my 1st time to ever have a library card apart from school. 😊

Overall, I always have a fun time whenever I visit the Library and the Mississauga Central Library does not disappoint.
